The FisherwomenConnect Mobile Application, developed by the M S Swaminathan Research Foundation, supports fisherwomen in postharvest fisheries. Funded by Reliance Foundation and USAID under Round 2 of the WomenConnect Challenge India. The app caters to a diverse user base
in both Tamil and English, accommodating varying literacy levels with visual and audio-based content.
Key features include learning modules on hygienic fish processing, value addition, fish safety, and best practices. The app also provides real-time weather updates, disaster alerts, and market trends for informed decision-making. Regular updates on news, government schemes, and fisheries sector
initiatives keep users informed.
A dedicated online store connects fisherwomen directly with buyers, ensuring fair prices and economic opportunities. Additionally, the app offers information on minimizing and managing occupational health hazards in post-harvest fisheries.
FisherwomenConnect bridges the information gap and fosters a supportive community, promoting inclusivity and empowerment for women in post-harvest fisheries.
